Rules and Regulations


Rules for the General Public:


  1. No food, drink, water, or coffee is allowed on the premises.


  2. Members of the public are NOT permitted to bring their own reptiles or any other pets on the premises, except for Seeing Eye and Guide Dogs.


  3. Organizers of the Halifax Reptile Expo, vendors, members and volunteers are not responsible for any theft, damages or injuries including bites and scratches that may befall a member of the public who is attending the Expo.


Rules for Exhibitors:

  1. All sales are between buyer and vendor and are not the responsibility of the Halifax Reptile Expo or its organizers.


  2. Venomous/poisonous animals are prohibited at the Expo.


  3. Animals with external parasites including but not limited to mites, ticks, etc. and freshly imported animals that may pose a health risk to surrounding vendors and their animals as deemed by the organizers are prohibited at the Expo. The Ssafe Haven Society for Reptiles and Amphibians reserves the right to inspect and examine all animals without notice as required. Animals that are suspected of being ill or afflicted with parasites require immediate removal from the premises.


  4. Boas and Pythons sold at the Expo must not grow to exceed 3.2 meters in adult size.


  5. Turtles cannot be sold at the Expo as per the Nova Scotia Health Promotion Act. Tortoises can be sold with proper import documentation.


  6. Live rodents and mammals are prohibited at the Expo. Frozen rodents will be permitted as long as they remain sealed in plastic and contained in portable coolers.


  7. Insect suppliers must keep all feeders in sealed escape-proof containers. Crickets must be kept in sealed boxes where there is no chance for escape.


  8. Vendors must bring and utilize citrus-free hand sanitizer if any animals at their exhibit are to be handled by the public or another party. Hand sanitizer must be used whenever an animal is handled by the public or another party.

  10. Environment Canada (link 1, link 2) provides the most up-to-date information on what captive wildlife can be kept as pets, which ones require a permit, and what species are prohibited.
